I and my sparring-mate Denis Hangsing (in black trunk)

There was a time in 1970s, boys of spirit and boys of will from all over the states of India were assembled together to study through their merits. Our the then Principal of the Institution was Cmdr R N Pareek, Headmaster was Major H C Vyas and our Registrar was Capt  ?

We were cadets —clad in khaki, maroon beret with yellow pompon with a brass-cap-badge. Our shoulder-flashes were colored in four different types. Blue for Udaygiri, Yellow for Lachit. Red for Lohit and Green for Chilarai. I was in the Udaygiri House. Denis Hangsing was in the Lachit House.  Khaki shorts, brown stockings with shining-black Naughty-Boy shoes. Army-belt around our loins.  Smart enough to be a Sainik boy in Academic lines!

I and Denis —we were in the same batch, sat in the same class … those bygone days have now become an old History in our lives. Ever since we were parted from that Institution, there never was any following communication in between us. Fortunately, March 31, 2010 has been a special day for me here in Markwood Drive (Silver Spring, Maryland) —it’s my birthday anniversary and I somehow got a reckoning-mail from Denis Hangsing (Kuki) who is now stationed in Kohima, Nagaland.

Denis attached this tiny b&w photograph—the evening we did sparring together with black mittens. I never ever remembered any more we did sparring together … long time ago somewhere in Assam! The ground where we were was the Soccer Ground No. 2. I recollect many amazing things … in fact, that’s a dummy-fight just for pictures, clicked with a Click III camera, a most coveted one in those days! And the print out could have been processed in the Mitali Studio—in the heart of the town beyond Baladmari Street!

From a picture below, it’s hard to remember all the boyhood-friends of mine. I can only make out Denis here, Oh my gosh,  I am with an yellow  T-shirt showing my back. This I could recognize myself only through by way of a fancy painting on my back … STOP within an octagon circum-line drawn, which I myself did paint it with fabric paints! Those were the days!

My Registration No. was 719 and Denis Hangsing could have been 690 —if blundered, let Denis exact his Registration No.!

WELCOME!

How nice it would be after 40 yrs got some note and old pics fr friends. I wonder how special it would be. I have two classmates Taru Muri (RIP) gone too soon he was Executive engineer in Arunalchal Pradest and another guy from same place is Tacha Congo he is now Chief Engineer, PWD. I hope both are either your classmates or schoolmate in the Sainik.

Reminiscing good old days is good at-least once in a blue moon

        Dear Tali,

I know lots about your father then, Tacha was a great boxer too. I still remember the morning he read out NEWS int he Assembly Quadrangle and even the Headmaster Major HC Vyas chuckled a lot! Your dad was in the Lachit (Yellow) House. May God bless your family!
